Catherine Ward (MSc)

Catherine has a background in Environmental Science with an interest in social-ecological systems. She is a PhD student linked to our SCIFR project (see Project Area 3). Her project looks at social-ecological systems in the southern Cape with a focus on climate variability from the farming communities’ perspective, in order to gain insight into the larger network interplay between terrestrial and marine systems. This project examines the relationship between farming and climate variability, as well as the larger interplay of terrestrial and marine systems by comparing and contrasting farmers’ and fishers’ local knowledge of climate variability in relation to change observed by scientists in the proposed study area over the past few decades.
