Kate is a marine ecologist with a background in marine biology, ocean and atmosphere science. During her PhD,completed in the group in 2015, Kate focused on changes in spatial abundance of fish species and modelling drivers of spatial fluctuations in small pelagic fish in the southern Benguela region. After a postdoctoral fellowship in the Global Change Biology Group in the Department of Botany and Zoology at Stellenbosch University (SUN), working with Prof Guy Midgley (SUN) and Dr Lynne Shannon (here) on an index of biodiversity change in the southern Benguela. She has now returned as a Post-Doc, conducting further research with the frame-based model developed in her PhD, as well as with the EwE approach.
Her research interests include ecosystem modelling, function and monitoring, and drivers of change.
